Abstract

The groundwater occurrence along the contacts of sandstone outlier in biotite gneiss near Tiruvuru, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, was investigated by electrical resistivity survey. The depth and width of such contacts were established from geoelectrical sections drawn based on vertical electrical sounding (VES). Results obtained are correlated with the geology and the bore well data of the area.

Abstract

Delineation of groundwater resources in hard rock terrains is one of the important topics to be treated with a more advanced approach than simple one-dimensional attitude, particularly when looking for deeper water saturated horizons. The present study introduces an integrated geophysical approach to identify structural features such as fractures, weak zones and intrusive dyke bodies, which can control and host potable groundwater at greater depths. The study is conducted in an area of about 8 km² along east coast of Tamil Nadu, which has been identified as a major rainshadow zone. Geophysical measurements were carried out in very closely spaced grids making use of resistivity, magnetic and electromagnetic techniques. The sensitivity of each technique to different rock properties in varying directions has been considered to resolve the problem. A major weak zone running in SW-NE direction is demarcated which is characterised by many intrusive dyke bodies. The conductivity distributions at different depths throw light on many structural features. The varying thickness of weathered rock calculated from the Horizontal Loop Electromagnetic (HLEM) and Deep Resistivity Sounding (DRS) studies for the entire area reflects the extension of weathering associated with dyke emplacements. Geo-electrical sections obtained through DRS studies, concentrated mainly along the weak zone have shown the occurrence of potable groundwater resource controlled by structural features.

Abstract

In this paper, YagiUda shaped rectangular microstrip patch antenna fed by inset feed is designed to operate for frequency and polarization reconfigurability is presented. It consists of a square patch with four corners truncated and three parasitic patches placed on top. It operates as a frequency and polarization, reconfigurable antenna. Switches are placed in the gaps of truncated corners to obtain switching between Linear, Circular polarizations. The proposed antenna also switches between two frequencies by controlling current path between main and parasitic patches through switches. Its performance evaluation is carried out with the help of simulation and physical verification and the results are presented.

Abstract

This paper presents a single antenna structure design to switch between UWB and four narrow band frequencies. The antenna consists of rectangular patch with curved shape on one side and switchable band pass structure on other side. Proposed antenna is very much suitable for cognitive radio applications. Antenna operates in five states. One state of antenna is operates in wide band which is used for channel sensing and remaining four states operates in narrow band frequency which is used to communicate over a desired frequency band. Its performance evaluation is carried out with the help of simulation and physical verification and the results are presented.

Abstract

Information and communication technology has changed the way in almost all the fields and is playing salient role in education. Use of ICT in teaching-learning process is different from teaching in a classroom. Teachers have to be trained in such a way that they should plan, create and deliver the content using ICT tools. Integrating ICT into education seems to be necessary issue for educators and education administrators in the world. ICT tools provide more effective learning environment. Use of ICT make changes in teaching methods, learning approaches, handling and exchanging information. The purpose of this paper discusses the benefits and difficulties in use of ICT for teaching-learning process, approaches for use of ICT in education in India as well as other counties.

Abstract

Objectives: This article highlights a novel concept of identifying the ancient images along with the artists by proposing a model based on a Generalized Bivariate Laplacian Mixture Model (GBLMM) approach for this purpose. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Conservative Chinese paintings emulate the exquisiteness of Chinese sculpture. Most of these descriptions are digitized and are available in the internet. One of challenging task is to retrieve the images of significance more efficiently and proficiently. This article highlights a pioneering idea to spot these ancient images along with the artist by proposing a model based on a Generalized Bivariate Laplacian Mixture Model (GBLMM) approach. Findings: The methodology is subjected to the application of ancient Chinese paintings. The results derived are evaluated against quality metrics such as image fidelity, peak signal noise ratio, structured coefficients, average difference and mean squared error. The proposed model accomplished over 97% of classification accuracy over a dataset containing 3750 traditional Chinese paintings. Application/Improvements: In order to ascertain the quality of segmentation, metrics like Image Fidelity (IF), Mean Squared Error (MSE) and Peak Signal Noise Ratio (PSNR) are considered. This model can be very much useful for the archeologists to identify the ancient paintings.
